Self Advocacy Training Overview

The program’s purpose is to foster a deep understanding of the importance of self-advocacy. Through tailored instruction, education, and demonstration, RCM empowers individuals to advocate for their own interests, with a strong emphasis on their rights as adults and citizens. The program supports clients in making informed choices while reinforcing the significance of their input and desires.

Key Program Features:

  1. Understanding Rights and Advocacy:
    Clients will receive guidance on advocating for their needs and interests in various areas, with a focus on asserting their rights confidently and effectively.
  2. Civic Awareness:
    Participants may be introduced to resources that build foundational knowledge of local, state, and federal government systems. Topics such as current events, significant social and political issues, and basic laws that impact daily life are covered to encourage informed citizenship.
  3. Practical Skills Development:
    Clients will learn essential skills, including:

    • Navigating voting and election processes.
    • Understanding and utilizing grievance procedures.
    • Practicing assertiveness during phone communication while maintaining courtesy.

    As needed, trainers may accompany clients to appointments with agencies or healthcare providers, offering hands-on support to ensure access to necessary services.

  4. Forensic Support Services:
    RCM is committed to providing inclusive and accessible forensic support tailored to individuals with disabilities. Our team addresses unique challenges and ensures that forensic processes are conducted with respect and inclusivity, prioritizing each client’s diverse needs.

This program aims to equip clients with the tools and confidence to actively engage in their communities, advocate for their needs, and make empowered decisions that align with their goals and aspirations.
